Thousands march in Stockholm demanding stronger climate action

More than 50,000 people marched in Stockholm to ask leaders to do more about climate change.

The march happened shortly before Sweden’s national elections.

About 280 groups joined, including environmental organisations, trade unions, religious groups and researchers.

The organisers said politicians should take the climate crisis seriously.

Surveys show that climate change has become more important to Swedish voters.

People who identify with the political left were much more likely to say they were very worried about climate change than people on the right.

One expert said this could be a new wave of climate activism.

Sweden’s elections for parliament and local councils are scheduled for September 13.
