Delhi Court Acquits Sajjan Kumar in 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots Case
A court in Delhi has decided that Sajjan Kumar, a former politician, is not guilty in a case about the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
These riots happened in the Janakpuri and Vikaspuri areas of Delhi after the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was killed.
The court said there wasn't enough proof to show that Sajjan Kumar was involved in the violence.
However, he is still in jail because he was found guilty in another case related to the riots.
The court has not yet given the detailed reasons for its decision.
Many people were hurt or killed during the riots, and this case is part of the efforts to find justice for those affected.
The families of the victims are very sad and angry because they feel justice has not been served.
They say they will keep fighting for justice in higher courts.
Delhi court acquitted former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar in a case related to inciting violence during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Janakpuri and Vikaspuri.
Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh pronounced the acquittal, stating that the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
Kumar was charged with rioting and promoting enmity but was discharged of murder and criminal conspiracy offences in August 2023.
The case involved two FIRs registered in 2015, one for the killing of Sohan Singh and Avtar Singh in Janakpuri, and another for the killing of Gurcharan Singh in Vikaspuri.
Kumar is currently serving a life sentence in a separate case related to the killings of Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh in Saraswati Vihar.
