Kurnool Health Department Deploys Fish to Fight Mosquitoes

Health workers in Kurnool are using small Gambusia fish to help control mosquitoes.

The fish eat mosquito babies, called larvae, that live in standing water.

Teams placed the fish in suitable wells, ponds, pits, and pools of rainwater.

This may help lower the spread of malaria, dengue, and chikungunya.

Workers also visited homes and villages to teach people how to keep areas clean.

Residents were asked to remove old tires, containers, and stored water where mosquitoes can breed.

The campaign includes a weekly “Friday–Dry Day” effort to remove such water.

Officials also introduced an app to help workers track mosquito-control activities.
