India Eases Electronics Manufacturing with QCO Rollback
India has removed a quality control rule for a special wire used in electronics like phones and TVs.
This wire helps connect parts inside these devices.
The rule was removed because it was causing delays and problems for companies that make these electronics.
China is the biggest supplier of this wire to India.
The government decided to remove the rule after talking to experts and industry leaders.
This change is expected to help big electronics companies in India get the wire they need more easily.
It's part of a bigger plan to make sure rules don't stop the growth of India's electronics industry.
India withdrew the Flux Cored Solder Wire (Quality Control) Order, 2023 to support domestic electronics manufacturing and boost exports.
The move benefits Chinese suppliers who dominate India's imports of flux-cored solder wire, used in everyday electronic items.
The withdrawal reduces the total number of active QCOs from 761 to 711, following recommendations from a NITI Aayog committee.
Imports of flux-cored solder wire from China declined sharply after the QCO was enforced in March 2024, but have since recovered marginally.
Large electronics manufacturers like Dixon Technologies, Foxconn India, and Samsung Electronics India are expected to benefit from smoother access to the wire.
