Tarun Tejpal sentenced to 10 years in rape case

A very famous journalist in India named Tarun Tejpal used to be in charge of a news magazine called Tehelka.

A woman who worked with him said that he hurt her in a hotel elevator in Goa in November 2013.

Because of what she said, the police arrested him.

A lower court later decided he was not guilty in May 2021.

But a higher court, called the Bombay High Court, looked at the case again.

The higher court decided he was guilty of rape.

He was sent to jail for 10 years.

Many people protested against him when the case first started.

This happened before a big worldwide movement called #MeToo.
