Telangana BJP Seeks Judicial Probe Into Section 22A Listings
The Telangana BJP held a large protest about land records in Hyderabad.
It says many farmers’ and private properties were wrongly marked as unavailable for sale.
The party says this also made it harder for people to get loans.
BJP leaders accused the Congress government and some officials of corruption in removing properties from the list.
They also made allegations involving Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.
These accusations were made by BJP leaders, and the articles did not include a response from the government.
BJP leaders gave different estimates of how much land was affected.
They want a judge-led investigation and plan to continue protesting until the listings are reviewed.
The Telangana BJP held a Maha Dharna in Hyderabad demanding a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into Section 22A land listings.
The party alleged that farmers’ homes, agricultural properties, private lands and public-amenity sites were wrongly placed on the Bhu-Bharathi prohibited-properties list.
BJP leaders claimed the listings prevented about 50 lakh people from selling land or securing loans for household, education and marriage expenses.
Union minister G. Kishan Reddy and other leaders alleged that the Congress government sought commissions of up to 30% to remove properties from the list, while the previous BRS regime allegedly took 15%.
BJP speakers gave differing estimates of the affected area, saying the prohibited list had grown from 16 lakh to 80 lakh acres or covered about 60 lakh acres.
