India's Spot Power Prices Plunge Amidst Heavy Rains and Surplus Supply
Imagine the price of electricity is like the price of candy at a store.
Recently, the price of electricity in India went way down!
This is because it rained a lot, which lowered how much electricity people needed.
Also, there was extra electricity from sources like the sun and wind.
Because there was more electricity than needed, the price dropped, making it cheaper for consumers.
Sometimes, the price even dropped to almost nothing for a short time.
This is good news for businesses and regular people who use electricity.
Spot market electricity prices fell 45% in early September.
The Real-Time Market (RTM) average price was ₹2.01 per unit from Sept 1-4.
RTM trading volumes jumped 83% during the same period.
Heavy rains increased supply and reduced demand.
Coal stocks at thermal power plants are at 91% of the required amount.
