Govt. Plans Caste Census, Karnataka Conducts Socio-Economic Survey
The Indian government is planning a new caste census, possibly using both the central and state lists of Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
This is because the last census in 2011 had problems with inaccurate data.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka state government is also conducting its own survey to understand the social, economic, and educational conditions of its people.
The state government wants a new survey to address the previous report's shortcomings, while the Central government will conduct the census, starting in 2026, without the same broad scope.
The Indian government plans to potentially combine Central and State OBC lists for the upcoming caste census.
The population Census will be conducted by the government from 2026-2027.
Combining lists aims to avoid issues from the 2011 census where data was unreliable.
The Karnataka government is conducting its own social, economic, and caste survey.
Karnataka's CM stated that the Union government is not performing a comprehensive social, economic, and educational survey.
