Russia Strikes Ukraine with Oreshnik Missile
On the night of January 8, 2026, Russia launched a powerful missile called Oreshnik at a big gas storage place in Lviv, Ukraine.
This missile is very fast and can hit multiple targets at once.
The strike caused the gas supply to stop in the whole Lviv region.
At the same time, Russia also sent drones to attack Kyiv, which started fires, damaged buildings, and hurt 25 people, killing 4.
The Oreshnik missile is one of Russia's newest and most advanced weapons, and it can even carry nuclear warheads.
This is the second time Russia has used this missile in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
The authorities are still checking the exact damage caused by these attacks.
Kyiv's mayor urged residents to temporarily leave the city due to severe winter conditions and damage to critical infrastructure.
Russia launched an Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) at a gas storage facility in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine.
The missile, traveling at speeds over Mach 10, deployed MIRVs to strike the target multiple times.
The Bilche-Volytsko-Uherske underground gas storage facility, the largest in Europe, was hit, disrupting gas supply in Lviv Oblast.
Simultaneously, Russian drones attacked Kyiv, causing fires, damaging 20 residential buildings and the Qatari Embassy, and injuring 25 people, killing 4.
The Oreshnik missile is a hypersonic weapon with high manoeuvrability and the capability to carry nuclear warheads, marking its second combat use.
