COP30: India's Climate Adaptation Challenges and Actions
India is very vulnerable to climate change, ranking 9th on the global climate risk index.
At the recent COP30 meeting in Brazil, countries agreed on new ways to measure and improve climate adaptation.
This includes 60 voluntary indicators to track progress in areas like water security, food, health, and infrastructure.
However, only a small portion of global climate finance goes to adaptation, and there's a big gap in insurance coverage for disaster losses between rich and poor countries.
India is working on its National Adaptation Plan to address these challenges.
The goal is to make communities more resilient by combining scientific knowledge with local wisdom and policies.
This will require significant investment and stronger institutions to protect and prepare communities for future climate impacts.
India ranks 9th on the 2025 global climate risk index, highlighting its vulnerability to climate change.
COP30 adopted 60 voluntary indicators to measure progress on adaptation in key vulnerable areas.
Global adaptation finance fell to $26 billion in 2023, with a pledge to double it by 2025 and triple it by 2035.
Only 10% of disaster losses are insured in low-income countries, compared to 60% in wealthier nations.
India is finalizing its National Adaptation Plan to address climate risks and build resilience.
