BMC Boosts Mumbai Water Capacity with New 910 MLD Treatment Unit
Mumbai is getting a bigger water cleaning plant!
The city is adding a new, super modern part to the Pise–Panjrapur water treatment plant.
This new part will clean 910 million liters of water every day.
Right now, the plant can clean 1,365 million liters, but after the upgrade, it will be able to clean 1,820 million liters each day.
This is important because some of the old equipment is very old and not working as well.
A company called Welspun Enterprises is building the new part, which will take about four years to finish.
This will help make sure everyone in Mumbai has enough clean water.
BMC is adding a new 910 MLD advanced treatment unit to the Pise–Panjrapur water treatment plant.
This expansion will increase the plant's total capacity from 1,365 MLD to 1,820 MLD.
The project is being undertaken due to the deteriorating condition of the aging Bombay–1 water treatment plant built in 1979.
Welspun Enterprises Limited will execute the expansion work, estimated at Rs 3,145 crore, with a 15-year maintenance responsibility.
The new facility will utilize advanced technologies like high-rate gravity filtration and a backwash-water recycling system.
