Goa Police Probe Student Protests Over Pro-Umar Khalid Slogans
In Goa, some students held protests that shouted slogans supporting a jailed activist named Umar Khalid.
The police thought the protests might have hidden motives or money behind them, so they asked the organizers many questions.
They wanted to know who led the protest, how it was funded, and what the organizers hoped to achieve.
The police also detained two young people who were seen cheering for Khalid.
The main organizer, Amreen Shaikh, was questioned by the police but was later allowed to leave.
The police said they were just doing a normal investigation.
The protests were organized by a group called Uzvaad, and a local group called Citizens of Mapusa complained about the slogans.
Goa police questioned NGO Uzvaad organizers about student protests.
Protests featured slogans supporting jailed activist Umar Khalid.
Police asked around 240 questions about funding and intent.
Two youths were detained for cheering for Khalid during a resignation celebration.
The investigation was initiated after a complaint from Citizens of Mapusa.
