Left parties allege planned closure of HEC
Some political parties, like the CPI, are saying that the government is trying to close down a big company called HEC in Ranchi.
They think the government wants to take the company's land and machines to give to private companies.
The parties say the government stopped giving the company important orders and money, and didn't take care of the machines or pay the workers for over two years.
They also say that a plan to make the company better was ignored.
The parties are worried that closing HEC will make India depend more on other countries for important machines and will hurt the company's workers and the country's ability to make its own equipment.
Left parties accuse the Union government of deliberately pushing HEC towards closure to transfer its land and assets to private corporations.
Strategic orders worth Rs 1,200 crore were withheld, working capital was stopped, and the SBI bank guarantee was withdrawn.
HEC's operational capacity has been weakened with minimal maintenance, idle machines, and thinned-out township services.
Employees have worked for over two years without salaries, and no corrective action has been taken.
A modernisation plan recommended by a high-level committee was sidelined, and shutting down HEC could weaken India's heavy engineering ecosystem and increase dependence on imports.
