India to Build Speed Breeding Centers for Improved Seeds
India is building new centers to help create better seeds faster.
These centers will use special technology to grow crops in a controlled environment, like a lab, which speeds up the process.
This means scientists can develop new types of seeds that are good at producing a lot of food and can fight off diseases in a shorter time.
Currently, it takes about six years to develop a new seed variety, but these centers will reduce that time to just two or three years.
This will help farmers get better seeds that grow well, even with changing weather.
India is establishing five new seed breeding facilities.
These centers will use technology to speed up crop development.
The breeding cycle is expected to be reduced by 2-3 years.
Centers will be located at ICAR institutes across the country.
The goal is to provide farmers with high-yielding and climate-resilient seeds sooner.
