BJP, Congress Issue Whips as Parliament Heads for Final-Week Showdown

Two big groups of grown-ups in India, called the government and the opposition, work together in a big building called Parliament to make new rules, which are called bills.

Right now, they are not agreeing about two special bills.

One bill is about how many seats each area gets and making sure women have a fair share.

The other bill is about money that comes from outside the country.

The government has only one week left to pass these bills, so it told all its members to come to Parliament.

The opposition told its members to come too and vote together as a team.

The government thinks a group called the DMK from the south might help them pass the first bill.

The opposition wants the Home Minister to explain something the police did on July 20 before they agree to anything.

Both sides are talking to each other, but neither one wants to give in first.
