BNHS Conducts Ornithology Course in Maharashtra
The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) recently held a three-day course about birds at the Nandur-Madhmeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Maharashtra.
The course taught participants how to count birds, study their migrations, and tag them with rings.
They saw many different birds, including cranes and storks, and even spotted a leopard.
The sanctuary is a special wetland area that protects many bird species, and the course helped people learn more about how to conserve these birds and their habitats.
The participants also got to join a bird census and learned about the importance of bird calls and tagging in studying birds.
This course is part of efforts to teach people about the importance of birds and how to protect them.
The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) conducted a three-day ornithology course at Nandur-Madhmeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Nashik district, Maharashtra.
The course aimed to educate participants on bird conservation, counting techniques, and bird ringing, with 13 attendees including birdwatchers, students, and naturalists.
Participants learned scientific methods of bird counting, migration studies, and bird ringing through classroom sessions and fieldwork.
Notable bird sightings included Eurasian Curlew, Common Cranes, Harriers, Painted Storks, and Grey Herons, with 11 birds being ringed during the programme.
The sanctuary, a Ramsar site, is known for hosting a wide variety of migratory birds and provided an ideal setting for the course.
