Controversy Over NGT Order on Manipur Roads
There is a big argument in India about some roads in the state of Manipur.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) said to stop building these roads because they were made illegally through forests.
Some groups, like the Kuki Alliance for Nampi Awakening Movement (KANAM), are upset and wrote to the UN and the US, saying the order is causing problems for people.
They think the order is being used to hurt them.
On the other hand, another group, the Meitei Heritage Society (MHS), says these letters are trying to make the Indian government look bad and are a danger.
The Manipur government says they did not approve these roads.
The next hearing about this is in February 2026.
NGT ordered to stop work on roads in Manipur, citing illegal construction through forests.
Kuki Alliance for Nampi Awakening Movement (KANAM) sent letters to UN and US, alleging humanitarian concerns.
Meitei Heritage Society (MHS) submitted a memorandum to PMO and MHA, calling the letters a threat to India's sovereignty.
Manipur government denied approving the roads, clarifying they were illegal.
Next hearing on the matter is scheduled for February 2, 2026.
