Lokpal Cancels Rs 5-crore BMW Car Tender
The Lokpal, which is like a watchdog for corruption in India, decided to cancel a plan to buy seven expensive BMW cars.
These cars were worth about Rs 5 crore in total.
The plan was announced in October 2025, but many people, including political leaders, said it was not a good idea for an anti-corruption body to spend so much money on luxury cars.
Some suggested that the Lokpal should buy electric cars made in India instead.
After hearing these criticisms, the Lokpal decided to cancel the plan in December 2025.
The cars were meant for the chairperson and six members of the Lokpal.
The decision to cancel the tender was made by the full bench of the Lokpal.
Lokpal cancelled a tender for seven BMW 3 Series 330Li cars worth Rs 5 crore.
The tender was floated on October 16, 2025, and cancelled on December 16, 2025.
Criticism from Opposition parties and civil society activists led to the cancellation.
The cars were intended for the chairperson and six members of the Lokpal.
Suggestions were made to opt for electric vehicles manufactured in India instead.
