India First to Produce Bio-Bitumen from Farm Waste
India has started making a special kind of road material called bio-bitumen from agricultural waste like rice straw.
This is a big deal because it's the first time any country has done this on a commercial scale.
The ministers, Nitin Gadkari and Jitendra Singh, said this will help reduce pollution from burning crops and save money by using less imported oil.
It will also help farmers and create jobs.
The bio-bitumen works better than regular bitumen and is part of India's plan to be more self-reliant and environmentally friendly.
The government plans to invest a lot of money to make more of these projects, which will turn crop waste into useful things like fuel and save even more money.
A trial stretch of road using bio-bitumen has already been built in Meghalaya to show how well it works.
India becomes the first country to commercially produce bio-bitumen from agricultural waste.
Bio-bitumen reduces pollution from crop burning and saves Rs 4,500 crore in foreign exchange.
Successful trials show bio-bitumen performs better than petroleum-based bitumen.
The government plans to invest Rs 37,500 crore to set up 750 CBG projects by 2028-29.
A 100-metre trial stretch using bio-bitumen has been laid on the Jorabat–Shillong Expressway in Meghalaya.
