Meghalaya Targets $10 Billion Green Economy by 2028 with 'Meghalaya Next' Vision
Meghalaya wants to grow its economy significantly by 2028, aiming for $10 billion, and wants this growth to be good for nature and all its people.
They have a big plan called 'Meghalaya Next'.
To make this happen, they created a special team called the MegREAP cell.
This team works with different government departments and outside groups.
Their job is to help the state grow by focusing on important things like protecting the environment, creating jobs, managing money, and connecting with markets.
Meghalaya is already doing things like helping people get paid for protecting forests and creating plans for its many forests.
They are also planning to create 'Bamboo Villages' to help people benefit from this important natural resource.
The state has a lot of forests and wants to use its natural beauty for things like eco-tourism and clean energy.
Meghalaya aims to build a $10 billion green and inclusive economy by 2028 through its 'Meghalaya Next' vision.
The Regenerative Economies through Accelerated & Inclusive Enterprises in Meghalaya (MegREAP) cell has been established to drive this initiative.
MegREAP serves as a collaborative platform connecting various departments, missions, and partners to work at the intersection of climate, livelihood, finance, and markets.
The state has implemented initiatives like Payment for Ecosystem Services and forest management plans for over 1 lakh hectares.
Meghalaya, with over 78% forest cover, plans to leverage its strengths in sustainable agriculture, eco-tourism, clean energy, and bamboo cultivation, including the creation of Bamboo Villages.
