Telangana seeks clearance for Kaleshwaram project water lifting

The Telangana government has asked the central government and the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) for permission to pump water from the Kannepalli pumphouse in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party wants this to help with irrigation and drought issues.

However, the Telangana government is worried that lifting water now could damage three barrages (Meigadda, Sundilla, Annaram) that need repairs.

The NDSA has told the state to stop using the pumphouse until repairs are done.

The government has set a deadline of December 2024 to fix the barrages.

If the NDSA approves, the government might consider lifting water from Kannepalli.
