Chennai AC EMU Train Ridership Continues to Climb
Imagine a special train in Chennai with air conditioning, like a really cool bus!
This train has become super popular since it started in April 2025.
More and more people, like workers and students, are riding it every day.
It started with around 1,500 people, and now nearly 3,000 people are using it.
The train company has even changed the times and added more trains to make it easier for everyone.
The cost is a bit more than the regular train, but about the same as a bus or the Chennai Metro.
The train company thinks even more people will use the train soon when a new train line opens.
Air-conditioned EMU train service sees increasing ridership since April 2025.
Daily ridership increased from 1,488 in April to 2,800 (as of June).
Eight AC EMU services operate on the Chennai Beach-Tambaram-Chengalpattu section.
Train timings were revised and additional services were introduced based on commuter feedback.
Patronage is expected to grow with the upcoming MRTS Phase II extension.
