Kolkata port hoists one of city's tallest national flags
A very tall flag pole with the Indian national flag was raised at a historic port in the city of Kolkata.
The pole is 60 metres high, which is nearly 197 feet, making it one of the tallest flag poles in the city.
The flag itself is very big, measuring 30 feet by 20 feet, so it can be seen from far away.
A group called the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority put up the flag.
They did this as part of a special programme called Har Ghar Tiranga, which celebrates national pride and unity.
The flag pole is built to last for 25 years and is made of strong steel.
A special motor helps raise and lower the big flag.
It stands next to an old clock tower that was built in 1899 to help ships keep time.
The port is India's oldest riverine major port and has been operating since 1870, helping ships carry goods for many places, including Nepal and Bhutan.
The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority (SMPA) hoisted a 60-metre-high (nearly 197 feet) Indian Tricolour at Netaji Subhas Dock on Friday.
The event was part of the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative celebrating national pride, unity and a Viksit Bharat.
The 30 ft x 20 ft flag makes the port one of the locations of the city's tallest national flag installations.
The permanent flagmast, built of a 20-sided galvanised high-tensile steel shaft, has a design life of 25 years and uses a motorised double-drum winch.
The flag stands beside the 1899 clock tower at India's oldest operational riverine major port, which began operations in 1870.
