US Envoys Hold Kyiv Talks as Peace Prospects Remain Uncertain
Two American representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, went to Kyiv to talk with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
They were trying to help stop the war between Russia and Ukraine.
They had met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow the day before.
The American and Ukrainian officials said the conversation was useful and that new ideas were discussed.
One Ukrainian official called the proposals more effective than earlier ones.
However, nobody announced a final peace agreement.
European representatives from Britain, France and Germany also took part in related talks.
The war continued, and Ukraine said Russian attacks had killed 10 people on Saturday.
Zelensky said the war might continue into winter and that more talks were needed.
Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on September 6, a day after meeting Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
The US envoys described the talks as meaningful, substantive and important, while a Ukrainian official said Washington brought more effective proposals.
A White House official said substantive plans could be announced in the coming weeks, but neither side reported a breakthrough.
British, French and German representatives participated in related discussions, with Zelensky saying they were part of the same coalition.
Fighting continued as Ukraine reported 108 drones and missiles in an overnight attack, while Russia said it had shot down 258 Ukrainian drones.
