India's Power Demand Peaks at 242.49 GW in FY26
India recently met its highest ever power demand of 242.49 GW during the financial year 2025-26.
The country has made big improvements in its power supply, with very few shortages now compared to a few years ago.
The amount of electricity each person uses has also gone up a lot.
India has added a lot of new power plants, including many that use clean energy like solar and wind power.
They are also building more traditional coal power plants and planning big projects to store extra energy for later use.
This shows that India is working hard to make sure everyone has enough electricity, both now and in the future.
India met a record power demand of 242.49 GW in FY 2025-26.
Energy shortages reduced to 0.03% in FY 2025-26 from 4.2% in FY 2013-14.
Installed power generation capacity increased to 509.743 GW as of November 30, 2025, up from 249 GW in 2014.
Per capita electricity consumption surged to 1,460 kWh in 2024-25, up from 957 kWh in 2013-14.
178 GW of renewable energy capacity, including 130 GW of solar and 33 GW of wind, has been added since April 2014.
