NSE Launches India's First Natural Gas Futures

The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has introduced the country's first natural gas futures contracts.

These contracts, traded under the symbol NATGASIND, are settled in cash and priced based on the Indian Gas Exchange's (IGX) Gujarat (Dahej) hub benchmark.

The pricing excludes transportation costs, taxes, and other charges, reflecting only the underlying gas price.

This move aims to improve price discovery and market efficiency, attracting traders and investors to the commodity market.

However, there are concerns about initial market liquidity and investor hesitation due to the complexity of commodity trading.
