India Benefits from U.S. Tariff Exemptions for Select Goods
The U.S. is letting some Indian goods into the country without tariffs (taxes).
This change means India can sell more of certain products to the U.S. without paying extra fees.
The new rules mainly benefit existing trade because only a small amount of new goods are added to the list.
The change covers $28.4 billion worth of goods, or about a third of what India sells to the U.S. The specific products that now have exemptions are a mix of industrial materials and ingredients used in making medicines.
The U.S. expanded tariff exemptions for countries with trade agreements.
The order is effective from Monday, September 8, 2025.
Exemptions cover 31.3% of Indian exports to the US.
Newly exempted products from India totaled only $15.2 million in 2024.
