Chidambaram Urges DGCA to Mandate Aerobridge Use
P. Chidambaram, a former Finance Minister, wants the aviation regulator, DGCA, to make it a rule for airlines to use aerobridges when they are free.
He says that using ramps or step ladders instead causes a lot of trouble for passengers who are old, have babies, or are in wheelchairs.
He also says that using aerobridges helps passengers get on and off the plane faster.
Chidambaram saw this happening at Chennai airport with IndiGo and Air India flights.
The airport explained that they do this to use their space and facilities in the best way possible.
Some people say that airlines prefer not to use aerobridges because they cost more money.
P. Chidambaram urges DGCA to mandate the use of aerobridges when available.
Airlines using ramps instead of aerobridges cause inconvenience to elderly, differently-abled, and passengers with infants.
Chidambaram observed IndiGo and Air India using ramps despite available aerobridges at Chennai airport.
Chennai airport clarifies that operational efficiency leads to the use of ramps for certain flights.
