High Court Stays Contempt Order Against Coimbatore Officials
The Madras High Court has temporarily stopped an earlier decision.
This decision found some government officials in Coimbatore (including the Collector, DRO, RDO, and Tahsildar) guilty of ignoring a court order.
They were accused of not acting on a complaint about land records.
The officials were originally ordered to pay fines, and the Tahsildar was sentenced to jail.
The High Court is now reviewing the case, with a final decision expected in about a month.
The original complaint was about problems with land ownership records.
Madras High Court stayed an order against Coimbatore officials.
Former Coimbatore Collector Kranti Kumar Patil was found guilty of contempt.
District Revenue Officer M. Sharmila and Revenue Divisional Officer P.K. Govindan were also found guilty.
The court also stayed the imprisonment of the Coimbatore North Tahsildar Manivel.
The contempt petition was filed for not complying with a court order from November 8, 2023.
