Govt says EC carries out internal quality checks during SIR
I will explain this story in a simple way.
There is a list of people who are allowed to vote, called a voter list.
Some people in Delhi, a big city in India, could not find their names on the voter list from 2002.
They told the government about this problem.
The government asked a minister named Arjun Ram Meghwal to answer.
He said the Election Commission checks its work at every step of making the list.
The Commission checks the work of booth-level officers and samples the list for mistakes.
The list is also shown to the public and to political parties.
People can raise complaints if they see problems.
The Commission looks at these complaints and fixes the valid ones before the final voter list is published.
The government told the Rajya Sabha that the Election Commission (EC) carries out internal quality checks during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal gave the written response to a question about Delhi voters unable to find their names in the 2002 electoral rolls.
EC's checks include cross-verification of BLO enumeration by supervisory officers and random sample audits of deleted entries.
Draft and final electoral rolls are publicly disclosed so political parties and electors can scrutinise them.
Grievances received during the claims and objections period are examined and valid ones are addressed before the rolls are finalised.
