Beed Faces Drought Threat as Dams Retain Just 16%

Beed Faces Drought Threat as Dams Retain Just 16%

Beed district has not received enough rain this monsoon.

Its dams and other water projects now hold only a small amount of usable water.

By August 31, the district had received about half of its normal seasonal rainfall.

August was especially dry, with only 25 millimetres of rain.

Many people in villages and hamlets now need water delivered by tankers.

Areas such as Georai, Ashti and Wadwani are among the worst affected.

If heavy rain does not arrive in September, crops may be badly damaged.

The administration may also need to arrange water plans and fodder camps for animals.
