SC upholds dismissal of Christian Army officer

The Supreme Court of India decided not to change the earlier decision by the Delhi High Court.

The High Court had said that an Army officer named Samuel Kamalesan should be dismissed from service.

This was because he refused to enter a place called Sarva Dharma Sthal, which represents all religions, due to his Christian beliefs.

The Supreme Court agreed with the High Court, saying that following orders is very important in the Army.

They also said that the officer's actions were not suitable for the disciplined environment of the Army.

The officer's lawyer argued that he only had one issue with entering the sanctum sanctorum of a temple or gurdwara, but the Court said that the officer's personal interpretation of his faith should not override the advice of his pastor or the collective faith of his troops.
