Carney denies retracting Davos remarks after Trump call
Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, gave a speech in Davos, Switzerland, where he talked about how the world's rules aren't working well anymore.
After his speech, the US President, Donald Trump, got upset.
Scott Bessent, who works for the US Treasury, said that Carney was trying to take back some of the things he said in his speech.
But Carney said that wasn't true and that he had a talk with Trump to clear things up.
Bessent thinks Carney is trying to push his own ideas about how countries should work together, which Bessent calls a 'globalist agenda.'
Carney said Trump's threats about putting taxes on Canadian things are just part of his way of negotiating.
Mark Carney, the Canadian Prime Minister, confirmed a call with Donald Trump on January 27, 2020.
Carney denied claims that he was retracting his remarks from a speech in Davos.
Carney's Davos speech urged nations to accept the end of a rules-based global order.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent commented that Carney was 'very aggressively walking back' some of his remarks.
The controversy arose from Trump's irritation over Carney's speech.
