India Monitors Downstream Flood Risk After Nepal Flash Floods

Nepal has experienced serious flash floods.

Officials think a sudden rise in the Trishuli River may be linked to a flash flood or melting water from a glacial lake.

Some floodwater could move into India through the Gandak River.

Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are the Indian states most likely to be affected.

India’s Central Water Commission says reservoir levels on Nepal’s side are falling.

It also says the situation is currently under control.

Rescue teams and the National Disaster Response Force are ready in case flooding reaches Indian areas.

Some people near the India-Nepal border have been evacuated or given support.

Government officials are continuing to watch the situation closely.
