Supreme Court Sets September 1 Hearing on OBC Creamy Layer

Supreme Court Sets September 1 Hearing on OBC Creamy Layer

The Supreme Court will hear the government’s question about rules for OBC benefits.

The case concerns 958 people selected for civil service jobs through the 2025 examination.

The government wants to use the OBC creamy-layer rules that were used before a court decision on March 11, 2026.

That decision said a parent’s salary alone cannot decide whether a family is in the creamy layer.

The court said the parent’s job position and other tests must also be considered.

The government says changing the rules now could treat similar candidates differently.

Some candidates may have applied in the general category because they thought they could not receive OBC benefits.

Rechecking everyone could delay job assignments and training.

A special bench will hear the government’s plea on September 1.
