Telangana BC Commission Holds Hearings on Caste Inclusion
Imagine a group in charge of deciding who gets certain benefits, like help from the government.
They're currently deciding if they should add 26 new groups of people to this list.
The group in charge listened to people who wanted to be added, like the Gavara and Settibalija groups.
They also heard from groups who already get help, who said they don't want these new groups added.
Politicians from a neighboring state even spoke up about it.
The group is still deciding and will continue the hearings.
The Telangana Backward Classes Commission held its second day of public hearings.
The hearings concerned the inclusion of 26 castes omitted from the Telangana BC list.
Representatives from several castes presented their case for inclusion.
Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha MP Paka Venkata Satyanarayana and AP Labour Minister Vasamsetti Subhash spoke on behalf of the Setti Balija caste.
Representatives from the Telangana BC ‘A’ group appealed against the inclusion of the 26 castes.
