Himalayan Disasters Kill, Displace Thousands Amid Floods and Landslides

The Himalayan region has experienced many deadly floods, landslides and other disasters.

A flash flood on Wednesday killed at least nine people in parts of Nepal and Tibet.

It also damaged villages, roads, bridges and power projects.

In Uttarakhand, four people died and dozens were missing after flooding and landslides in August 2025.

Nepal suffered another major disaster in 2024, when rain caused floods and landslides that killed at least 66 people.

In 2023, a glacial lake outburst flood in Sikkim killed 179 people.

A powerful flood in Uttarakhand in 2021 killed more than 200 people and damaged two hydroelectric projects.

Some experts say climate change and rapid development may be making these disasters worse.
