Punjab Teachers Announce Boycott of Non-Academic Government Work

Punjab government school teachers are unhappy about being given extra work.

They were asked to help make and verify new ration cards.

The teachers say this is not part of teaching students.

Several teachers’ unions joined together to raise the issue.

They sent written requests to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and district officials.

The teachers gave the government one week to remove these duties.

They said they would completely stop doing the non-academic work if it continued.

Many teachers also protested outside the Patiala Deputy Commissioner’s office.
