Bulgaria Approves US Use Of Bezmer Air Base

Bulgaria's Parliament recently approved a request from the US to use the Bezmer Air Base for supporting US operations in the Middle East.

This decision was made with a significant majority, with 136 votes in favor, 13 against, and two abstentions.

The agreement allows the US to deploy up to eight KC-135 refueling aircraft and 250 personnel at the base from Friday to October 1st.

The purpose of this deployment is to conduct logistical missions, specifically in-flight refueling, outside of Bulgarian airspace.

Prime Minister Rumen Radev and Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov assured that Bulgaria will not be involved in any military operations in the Middle East from its territory.

They also mentioned that guarantees have been received from the US to minimize risks to Bulgaria's national security.

Some legislators expressed concerns about Bulgaria getting involved in the Iran war, but the government has clarified that the deployment is solely for logistical purposes.
