India's December Inflation: Food Cheaper, Living Costs High
In December 2025, India's overall inflation rate was 1.33%, a slight increase from November.
Food prices have been decreasing for seven months in a row, making vegetables and pulses much cheaper than last year.
However, other food items like meat, eggs, and milk became more expensive.
Outside the kitchen, the cost of living is still going up.
Things like gold, silver, personal care items, healthcare, and education all cost more than they did last year.
So even though food is cheaper, the overall cost of living is still high for many families.
India's headline inflation rate was 1.33% in December, up from 0.71% in November.
Food prices have been decreasing for seven consecutive months, with vegetables and pulses significantly cheaper than a year ago.
Meat, fish, eggs, milk, edible oils, and fruits have become more expensive.
Non-food items and services, including precious metals, personal care, healthcare, and education, have seen price increases.
Despite cheaper food, the overall cost of living remains high due to rising prices in other essential categories.
