BMC Issues Notices to Shops Lacking Marathi Signboards
The local government in Mumbai, called the BMC, is making sure all shops have signs in Marathi.
They sent notices to over 3,000 shops that didn't have them.
The government made this rule in 2022.
The BMC had to stop for a while because of a court order, but now they can continue checking.
Sixty inspectors are checking around 50 shops each day to make sure they follow the rules.
BMC issued notices to 3,040 establishments for not having Marathi signboards.
The Maharashtra government mandated Marathi signboards for shops in 2022.
The BMC had paused enforcement due to a Supreme Court stay.
The stay was revoked in September 2023, and action resumed.
Inspections are conducted by 60 BMC inspectors across various wards.
