Home Ministry Plans Career Paths for Agniveers
The Indian government is making plans for the first group of Agniveers, who are soldiers recruited under a new system called the Agnipath scheme.
These soldiers serve for only four years and do not get pensions.
About 46,000 of them will finish their service soon.
The government wants to help them find jobs in other security forces called CAPFs.
They are setting up committees to figure out how to best use the skills of these former soldiers.
The government has also increased the number of jobs reserved for Agniveers in these forces.
There are special rules to help them get these jobs, like relaxing the age limits.
The Union Home Ministry is coordinating with CAPFs to plan career paths for the first batch of Agniveers exiting after four years.
Agniveers under the Agnipath scheme serve for four years without gratuity or pension, with 75% to be demobilized.
An internal committee will be set up to facilitate the absorption of ex-Agniveers into CAPFs and determine their roles.
The home ministry has mandated a 50% quota for Agniveers in CAPF recruitment, up from the previous 10%.
A five-year age relaxation has been announced for the first batch of Agniveers to join CAPFs and the Assam Rifles.
