Punjab to Appeal Court Order on DA Dues
The Punjab government has a big bill to pay for workers and retirees.
A court said they must pay it in two weeks, but the money needed is about 25,000 crore rupees, which is more than the state earns in three months.
Because of this, the government says it cannot pay and will ask the Supreme Court for help.
They want the court to change the deadline or the amount.
The case is about how much the state can afford to pay and when it must do so.
Punjab government plans to appeal a court order requiring payment of pending dearness allowance dues within two weeks.
The court order would force the state to pay about Rs 25,000 crore, a sum the state cannot afford.
The government claims it earns that amount in three months, making the deadline impossible.
The appeal will be taken to the Supreme Court of India.
The case centers on the financial burden of dearness allowance for employees and pensioners.
