Massive Birth Registration Scam in Maharashtra
In a small village in Maharashtra, India, a big problem was found.
Over 27,000 birth certificates were made in just three months, but the village only has about 1,500 people.
This is a huge scam.
The police think that people from other states and even Bangladesh might have used fake names to get these certificates.
A special team is now checking all the records to find out who did this and why.
The village's computer system was also used in a cyber fraud, linking it to a city far away.
The government is working to cancel all the fake certificates and find out how this happened.
27,397 birth certificates were fraudulently registered in Shendursani village, which has a population of only 1,500.
The scam occurred between September and November 2025 and was discovered on 24th November.
An FIR was lodged on 16th December 2025 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act.
Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya visited the village and suspected that thousands of Bangladeshis might be beneficiaries.
A verification drive was initiated, and a technical investigation revealed that the village's CRS ID was mapped to Mumbai, indicating cyber fraud.
