Kerala Government Orders Four SIT Probes Into Past Cases

Kerala Government Orders Four SIT Probes Into Past Cases

Kerala’s new government has created four teams to investigate older and controversial cases.

These teams are called Special Investigation Teams, or SITs.

The newest team will look again at an incident involving former minister Veena George at Kannur railway station.

Student protesters had demonstrated against her, and five people were arrested.

Police had accused them of attempted murder, but the seriousness of the allegation was later questioned.

The new team will study video footage and speak to police officers and witnesses.

It will also record statements from Veena George and her security officer.

The investigation will try to determine whether the original police charges matched what really happened.
