Indian Stock Market Declines Amid Foreign Outflows
On January 12, 2026, the Indian stock market saw a big drop.
The Sensex and Nifty, which are like report cards for the market, fell nearly 1%.
This happened because foreign investors were selling a lot of shares, and there were worries about new US taxes on Indian products and other global issues.
Some companies like Ashok Leyland and Lemon Tree Hotels did well, but others like Tejas Networks and Ashiana Housing did not.
The price of oil also went up a little.
Experts say the market is weak because of these problems and some international events.
The market has been going down for the past few days, and this drop is part of that trend.
Sensex and Nifty fell nearly 1% in late morning trade due to foreign fund outflows and geopolitical concerns.
Foreign institutional investors sold equities worth ₹3,769.31 crore, while domestic investors bought ₹5,595.84 crore worth of stocks.
Major laggards included Eternal, Adani Ports, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Reliance Industries, while gainers included Trent, NTPC, and Tata Steel.
Individual stocks like Ashok Leyland, Lemon Tree Hotels, and IREDA saw significant movements based on company-specific news.
Experts attribute the market weakness to geopolitical uncertainties, tariff-related concerns, and sustained foreign investor selling.
