Solapur Farmers Export First Banana Shipment to Oman
Farmers in Solapur, India, are now selling their bananas to other countries!
A group of farmers called Ule FPC sent its first big shipment of bananas to Oman.
They were able to do this with help from a government program that helped them build better places to store and prepare the bananas.
This allows the farmers to sell their bananas for more money and to new markets.
They hope to send even more bananas to other countries soon.
Ule Farmers Producer Company (FPC) from Solapur exported its first banana consignment to Oman.
The 20-metric-tonne shipment was facilitated with Vegrow, an agritech platform.
The export was made possible by the SMART program, which provided infrastructure support.
The FPC has 1,127 farmer-shareholders and plans to expand banana production.
The FPC aims to target wider markets across the Middle East.
