South Korea Probes Religious Group-Politics Links
The president of South Korea, Lee Jae Myung, has asked his ministers to look into how to stop religious groups from getting involved in politics in bad ways.
He wants to know if any politicians, from any party or position, have been doing illegal things with money from these groups.
Some people think he might be talking about the Unification Church, whose leader is in trouble for giving money to a former first lady.
The police are now checking if any politicians from the president's own party have taken money from this church.
In Japan, a court already ordered this church to be shut down, but that decision is being argued in a higher court.
One minister, Chun Jae-soo, said he will step down to prove he didn't take any money from the church, even though he says the claims are false.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung ordered an investigation into suspected illegal links between a religious group and politicians.
The investigation applies to all political parties and positions, regardless of rank or affiliation.
Comments appear directed at the Unification Church, whose leader is on trial for alleged bribery.
Police are investigating contacts between ruling party members and the Unification Church.
Oceans Minister Chun Jae-soo offered to resign amid allegations of receiving illegal payments from the Unification Church.
