Rains Bring Relief to Pulse Growers Despite Paddy Flooding

Rain has arrived in the Godavari districts after a long dry period.

This is helpful for pulse crops such as black gram and green gram.

Farmers grow these crops on thousands of acres.

Some fields, however, have too much water.

Paddy fields in Kakinada were badly flooded after canals and reservoirs overflowed.

Officials are checking how much damage occurred.

They say pulse crops may be safe if they are still growing normally.

Farmers should remove or monitor standing water and protect harvested crops from rain.
