TRAI Mandates Shorter Validity Voice and SMS Recharge Plans

TRAI Mandates Shorter Validity Voice and SMS Recharge Plans

India’s telecom regulator has changed the rules for some mobile recharge plans.

Phone companies must offer shorter plans for people who mainly make calls and send text messages.

These plans must be available for 30 days and for shorter periods.

At least one plan must be renewable on the same date each month.

If that date does not occur in a month, customers can renew on the month’s last day.

Companies must also offer at least one plan lasting longer than the monthly option.

The regulator said these choices will help people who do not want to pay for data bundles.

The rules followed a consultation that included responses from stakeholders and an open discussion.
